Forests and wild areas have been used as metaphors for facing the unknown for centuries and continue to be referenced in the present day (Brené Brown’s Braving the Wilderness being a recent example). This two-hour indoor/outdoor session would explore fear of the unknown (for both CLASP clients and practitioners), using an initial wooded walk to ground a discussion on working through the fears that surface in client work. Just as forests are tamed and made more navigable with trails and the right clothing and gear, so too can the work of collaborative law with the correct tools. One tool to be explored in detail is Emotional Intelligence (EQ), a framework for recognizing and managing one’s own emotions and understanding and influencing the emotions of those around you. The session will also encourage CLASP professionals to use the outdoors as a resource for their own personal health and wellness and that of their clients.
